What does it mean to be rooted? Think of how a tree grows deep roots in the ground that help it stay planted and firm so that it can grow strong and healthy and produce fruit. Being firmly rooted also allows that tree to be immovable to withstand strong winds and storms.

What keeps you strong and firm, and rooted in your faith?

And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. – Colossians 2:6-8

Staying firm and growing in your Christian Faith can be tough when faced with influence from “influencers” (who are really just trying to sell you something). Just as Peter began to sink into the water when he took his eyes off Jesus (Matthew 14:22-33) we can fall too when we lose our focus and look elsewhere rather than at the One in whom we should have faith.

God calls us to work out our faith and stay grounded in truth.

Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. – Ephesians 3:17-19

When we continue to grow in our faith and remain rooted in Christ, we stay steady when under pressure or feeling overwhelmed, because we know we are not carrying the burden alone.
