From: Admin User"Michael Scott, the boss of Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch on The Office, said it best, 'Do I need to be liked? Absolutely not. I like to be liked. I enjoy being liked. I have to be liked. But it’s not like this compulsive need to be liked, like my need to be praised.' And even though we laugh, we’re very much the same. You and I, we have to be liked too…we’re people-pleasers."
Balancing relationships is a difficult task for anyone, especially if you have to tendency to people-please. Even though it may come from a place of loving others and wanting to be liked, are we being spiritually healthy by people-pleasing? A few main points from the article, The 3 Big Lies People Pleasers Believe, written by Jill E. McCormick:
How people-pleasing shows up in our right-now life
- We don't want to disappoint others.
- We want our family to always be happy
- We want to be liked by others
- Outcomes are dependent on us.
- The happiness of others is our responsibility
- Our security is found in how much we're liked.
- Confess
- Ask God to teach you how to fear Him and not others
- Intentionally fight against your people-pleasing default
- Read the truth to replace lies
- Don't be too hard on yourself, it's takes time- you're a work in progress.
