Proverbs 12:11
11 Whoever works his land will have plenty of bread,
but he who follows worthless pursuits lacks sense.
In this verse Solomon contrasts the value of productive work with the foolishness of wasting time.
Scripture does not forbid rest, relaxation, or fun. God does not expect people to work themselves into a joyless exhaustion. What He does teach is the importance of doing what needs to be done, when it ought to be done.
If the Bible is true, then there are two competing kingdoms. One, the louder one, more brash, more obvious. It's visible and alluring. It glorifies material goods and focuses on the now. This is the kingdom of the physical kingdom. The other one... God's Kingdom. It too is all around us. In that kingdom words like happiness and success get defined totally differently.
- Get with a group and ask them what they define as success. Show them the two kingdoms that exist.
