Is it FALL yet???
It kinda felt like “fall” in Houston on Labor Day, with temperatures in the 70s and rainy weather. The city of Conroe already woke up to a 60-something degree morning on August 30! (I won’t tell you it was 69 degrees, so basically 70, but STILL!) It’s a hint of fall and I’ll take it.
Houston might not be the place for you if you love changing seasons. But it’s perfect if you love surprises! You never know if you’ll get 80 degrees (probably) or 50 degrees (probably not) anytime between now and Christmas! In the 7 or so years since I’ve lived here, I’ve celebrated some Thanksgivings in shorts and others in boots and sweaters. You just never know!
But once we’re past all the “Back to School” craziness, to me it’s officially fall (even when it’s 90 degrees.) You might agree or disagree on that. You might even quote that the “official first day of fall is September 22.” And you would be absolutely RIGHT! But regardless, we can all get excited about these ten reasons to love fall in Houston:
- It DOES get a bit cooler!
…in a roller coaster kind of way, but I’ll take those cooler temps (aka, cold fronts) when we can get them! - FOOTBALL!!!
Like this ABC 13 article shared, you have Monday Night Football, Thursday Night Football, Friday Night Lights, NFL Sunday and more to enjoy during the fall! - PUMPKINS!
You can enjoy pumpkin patches, pumpkin décor and, of course, pumpkin spice-whatever-you-want all over Houston! (Pro tip: watch your weather forecast and try to hit the outdoors when it’s a little cooler. Low 80s for the win!) - Fall Festivals!
This is a pretty epic list by Big Kids Small City, filled with events, festivals, markets and tons of other ideas. They’re family friendly if you have kids in your life (but you can enjoy many of the things on the list without kids, too!) - Arts Markets
There’s the first Saturday Arts Market, the Houston Heights Market, and tons of holiday markets that you’ll see pop up throughout the next few months. One of my favorite sources to find this info is Houston on the Cheap.com! You’ll hear me mention them on the NGEN Midday Show on Thursdays and Fridays! - Enjoy the outdoors (parks, bike trails and more!)
Trip Advisor has a great list of parks to explore! - Movies under the stars!
Depending on where you live, you can catch outdoor movies at Discovery Green, Memorial City Mall, Tomball’s 2nd Saturday at the Depot, Sugar Land Town Center and others! - You CAN find fall around Houston!
Don’t be fooled by the name “Kid 101”; this website rounded up the best places to find fall foliage in and around H-town! - State Fair of Texas
I know this is not a “Houston” thing, but it’s definitely a Texas thing and a lot of Houstonians make the trek up to Dallas to enjoy the State Fair. (Again, check the forecast and you might catch COOLER weather!) It starts September 28th and runs through October 21st. - NGEN EVENTS!!!
Ok, it’s fall, y’all, and I saved the best for last! This fall season is all about NGEN events! Just in case you missed Derek Minor’s and Bizzle’s tours, depending on when you’re reading this, you can still catch Social Club Misfits, Lecrae & Andy Mineo, Needtobreathe, Mandisa, Tauren Wells and MORE!!! Since you’re already here on the website reading the blog (thanks!), just click EVENTS at the top of the page to find out all the details.
I know it might be too hot to “feel” like fall in Houston, but we can make the best of it. And keep that jacket nearby, so you’re ready for the next cold front!
