A hug -- probably the most treasured act of comfort that most people took for granted before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our leaders and medical experts are recommending distance, lotsa distance to prevent Covid exposure. Yet even in the midst of cases going up, death rates going up, Dr. Joseph Varon of United Memorial Medical Center sees the human and not the numbers and took the time to be human and give this older patient a hug. It seems simple but I tell you what, after months feeling isolated from friends and family, those hugs are like treasures.
Dr. Varon has worked for 251 days straight tending to patients and still maintains his sense of humanity to give this hug! Beautiful!
