Gotee Records, Tobymac's label, celebrated a massive accomplishment this week: Gotee alumni GRITS received a Platinum certification from RIAA for their song "Ooh Ahh" (featuring Tobymac). The infectious song was propelled to fame by several key placements in major films, including The Fast And The Furious: Toyko Drift and Big Momma’s House 2.
GRITS (an acronym for Grammatical Revolution in the Spirit) started releasing projects in the early 90s, releasing their debut record on Gotee in '95. However, it wasn't until 2002 with The Art of Translation, featuring the song "Ooh Ahh," that they experienced a real breakthrough into the industry as a whole.
Many people consider GRITS to be pioneers and believe Christian hip hop wouldn't be the same today without their influence and legacy.
